Restrictive dieting when learning how to lose arm fat is a big no no—a sure-fire path to failure. However, gently changing your eating patterns will accelerate arm flab reduction. But many women do not know how to effectively change their eating patterns. In fact, a lot of what they do sets them up for failure. And getting toned arms doesn’t have to be so darn hard! Here is a list of what NOT to do so that you don’t end up failing:
- Trying to burn more calories than you take in. It’s not about how much you do, but about what you do. I know you are very busy, so am I. We don’t have all day to be exercising or learning how to lose arm fat! The good news is that you don’t have to. Don’t fall for the outdated claim that you need to do both cardio and weights to reduce arm flab. Nothing could be further form the truth. If you workout (45min. or less) properly with enough intensity, you’ll burn an excess of calories 36 hours after your workout—even while you sleep! In this case, less is more.
- Keeping a log of everything you eat. Are you a robot? Of course not! So why act like one? Write down everything you eat and you’ll end up feeling like a slave. This is not necessary. Eliminating flabby arms doesn’t have to be so mechanical. Really, it doesn’t. Simply focus on each meal one at a time. Make sure your meals have food from each of the major groups (protein, carbohydrates, and fat). Period. Don’t go overboard or you might not have the willpower to get back on ship.
- Counting calories. This is even worse than keeping a log like a robot. It’s not about how much you eat, but about what you eat. Counting calories is a waste of time. Wouldn’t you rather be with your husband or playing with your kids instead of being a caloric accountant? I know I would. Many “experts” claim that if you eliminate 3500 calories from your diet you’ll lose a pound of fat. Wrong! This is based on an outdated “closed thermodynamic model.” It’s not about calories in versus calories out. It’s about what happens to the calories once they are in your body. If you eat the wrong foods—no matter how low your caloric intake is—the calories will be shuffled towards your flabby arms. If you eat the right foods—even with a high caloric intake—the calories will be shuffled towards muscle, brain and organs. Bottom line: you can burn arm flab by eating more of the right foods.
- Eliminating foods from your diet. There is no need to completely eliminate a pleasure food you really like from your diet. You can have your cake and eat it too while still getting rid of your flabby arms. The trick is to simply have a smaller portion of the pleasure food along with a serving of greens (i.e., vegetables, salad). The greens will slow down the digestion of your pleasure food and prevent it from going to your arm fat stores. The rate of digestion is what matters most. Bon appetite!
Well, there you have it. Four pitfalls to avoid that will make changing your eating patterns a lot easier. You see, getting toned and sexy arms doesn’t have to be so hard. Enjoy!
