Yes, muscle needs to contract for you to build muscle and lose fat &lt;em&gt;healthily&lt;/em&gt;. Having said that, there are different types of muscle contraction. 

From what I&#039;ve gathered, the shake weight seems to work best when combined with diet and other exercise modalities-not when used in isolation.

		<description>I have one.it works well.i need to get a second one so I can use it as dumbells.i would use just one shake weight with dvd as instructed.i bought a denise austin&amp;taebo dvd .2 weights is recommended with the dvds sotherefore I need another shake weight instead of one.i need extra arm movements instead of just 6minutes a day of arm workouts.I hear yall complaining of the 6minute workout. thats not enough.get an real exercise dvd.work your arms for 30 minutes a day,3times a week &amp; u will see improvement.</description>

But of course that isn´t my only workout, I use it every day, make some yoga or pilates, and avoid eating alot of fat, I really had to change my diet to start seeing results in my arms and all of my body, between I also go jogging, so I think this would work if you include some other activities to your workout.

Since the pain is unrelenting I think you should see a doctor just to make sure everything is ok. 

One thing that could be causing this is overuse. If you use your right hand a lot for computer work and on top of this you use the shake weight, your tendons could get inflamed.
